Day-to-day at Harper Grey

Tell me I won't just be doing research

Being a student at Harper Grey is designed to be a microcosm of your life as a lawyer. We want you to have as full an experience as possible, and build your skills in the real world of law - of which research is just one area.

What you'll be doing

Some of the things you'll be doing can include:

  • Attending at chambers, assessments, examinations in aid of execution, discoveries, and applications, at various levels of Court.
  • Having responsibility for small claims cases.
  • Assisting as a junior at trials and inquests.
  • Drafting pleadings, wills, and corporate documents, and transferring real estate.
  • Preparing opinions of laws and legal memoranda.
  • Interviewing witnesses and meeting with clients.

Our aim is to provide you, in a real sense, with a practice that reflects a lawyer's own.

How about that research?

The research that you'll be doing at Harper Grey involves challenging, complicated legal research issues. Your hard work is vetted and often used as the basis for legal argument for all levels of Court.

Guidance from our lawyers

During any part of your day, you can seek feedback on your work from your principal lawyer, or any of our lawyers. Our students receive guidance from some of the top litigators in the country in their pursuit of excellence in law.

A few words from a former student

Former summer student (now Associate), Julie Gibson, describes her time at Harper Grey, "My summer experience at Harper Grey was invaluable. I attended an inquest, and accompanied lawyers to discoveries, client meetings and trials. The lawyers challenged me to do high quality and important work. They provided me with an intense and enjoyable immersion in litigation practice."
