Harper Grey LLP is pleased to announce that the Honourable Allan Thackray Q.C. has returned to the firm as counsel. Mr. Thackray will provide strategic advice and counsel to the firms litigation and health law groups. He will also act as an arbitrator and mediator and as counsel on matters referred to the firm for his advice.
After his call to the British Columbia Bar in 1960 Mr. Thackray was with the Department of External Affairs before joining the firm in 1961. He enjoyed a distinguished career at the Bar over the next 30 years and became recognized as one of British Columbia's pre-eminent counsel. Mr. Thackray was honoured with a Queens Counsel designation in 1982 and was made a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers.
In 1990 Mr. Thackray was appointed a judge of the Supreme Court of British Columbia. In 2001 he was appointed to the British Columbia Court of Appeal. He served in that court with distinction until his retirement in October 2007.
Mr. Thackray has generously and regularly contributed to the education of lawyers and physicians in British Columbia. As a practicing lawyer he had a long association with the Canadian Medical Protective Association, for whom he was counsel in British Columbia prior to his appointment to the Bench.
The depth and breadth of Mr. Thackray's experience will serve our clients and the firm well. Harper Grey LLP is very pleased to have him rejoin us as a friend and advisor.

On November 30, 2007 Harper Grey LLP and the West Coast Symphony proudly presented a public concert to raise funds for the Lookout Emergency Aid Society. $6,260 was raised via donations-at-the-door.
The feature soloist for the concert was Roselle Wu, a classically trained pianist and associate of Harper Grey LLP. Roselle and the symphony performed Beethoven's Emperor Concerto to a full house and appreciative audience of more than 700 people.

Insurance professionals are often required to consider the potential ramifications of criminal activities. Most deal with fraud or arson on a regular basis. Many are frustrated by the perception that the courts make it difficult for insurers to deny coverage. However, recent decisions with respect to the criminal act exclusion suggest that the judicial tide is turning in favour of insurers.

Roselle Wu and Kim Jakeman have both been elected to the executive of the Canadian Bar Association's National Health Law Subsection until August 2008.
Roselle will be President of the group, and Kim Jakeman will serve as Secretary. Peter Willcock, Chair of our Insurance Practice Group, was one of a few lawyers in BC asked to speak at the joint CBA/ OBA conference "Critical Issues in Health Law: A National Summit" held on May 2007 in Toronto.
