Julie Gibson practices commercial litigation, administrative law and health law. She was admitted to the Bar of British Columbia in 2003. Julie has appeared in the British Columbia Court of Appeal and the British Columbia Supreme Court, as well as before a variety of administrative tribunals.  Julie is Assistant Chair of the Administrative Law Practice Group. 

Representative Client Work

  • Bringing a summary trial application on behalf of an education program provider leading to the Plaintiffs’ decision to abandon their claims of breach of confidence, copyright infringement and passing off.
  • Successfully applying for the dismissal of an action against a general practitioner where the plaintiff alleged improper administration of an intramuscular injection.
  • Assisting senior counsel in successfully defending an emergency physician through trial in an action commenced by a plaintiff alleging missed diagnosis of a myocardial infarction.
  • Assisting senior counsel with research and drafting British Columbia Supreme Court and appellate arguments in a case involving alleged misappropriation of intellectual property.

Professional & Civic Activities

  • Co-presenter of an interactive workshop on the use of alternative dispute resolution in professional regulation as part of the 2005 Acuity Forums Professional Regulation Summit in Vancouver
  • Presenter, "Gender in British Columbia Small Claims Court Mediation" as part of the University of British Columbia Program on Dispute Resolution's Public Lecture Series held at UBC Robson Square, 2003
  • Contributing author for Quicklaw’s Harper Grey Administrative Law Netletter
  • Volunteer supervising lawyer and scheduling coordinator for the Law Students’ Legal Advice Program Clinic at Britannia Community Centre
  • Former Vice Chair of the Health Law section - Canadian Bar Association, British Columbia

Background

During her undergraduate studies, Julie worked in Toronto and North Carolina on medical research focussing on cystic fibrosis. She also worked on cardiovascular disease and nutritional sciences research projects at the University of Toronto and St. Michael’s Hospital (Toronto).

In 2002, she received the Alexander J. Cohen Memorial Award for dedication to original research about law and its social context.

Julie enjoys running, hiking and reading.
