Jay Havelaar articled with Harper Grey LLP in 2007-2008. Following his call to the bar he joined the firm as an associate.

Representative Client Work

• Defended a Home Inspector in a professional negligence trial in Small Claims Court
• Successfully defended an insured in a fire liability trial in Small Claims Court
• Conducted numerous Supreme Court and Small Claims files, and has drafted pleadings, conducted discoveries, conducted chambers applications, appeared at mediations and conducted trials
• Appeared as counsel in the Supreme Court of British Columbia, the Court of Appeal of British Columbia and the Provincial Court of British Columbia

Background

Jay was born and raised in  Campbell River on Vancouver Island.  Prior to becoming a lawyer he worked as a forest consultant and in helicopter logging. 

Jay is an avid outdoorsman, enjoying skiing, mountaineering, jogging, squash and rugby.  In his spare time, he enjoys reading and playing music.
